cheapskate quick meal

we did dinner once over the weekend again.
...but we can be cheapskates sometimes. since we have some pita bread at home, we decided to have meat with them. we were at parkway (the psi level went back down to normal so we headed for our walk-walk at EC park again), and before purchasing meat from giant supermarket, we decided to go down to mph bookstore to check out recipes to make kebab. unfortunately most of the books were clingwrapped, except for the ones by one of my favourite celebrity chefs.....chefw.an! hahah
the recipe we used was taken from his 'around the world' recipe book. i can't remember the exact tittle, because i didn't buy it. i only needed one recipe for the kofta so i memorised it..hahahah..as i stood there at mph.
so cheapskate right! (but his other two books i have, i only got them at $5 each at the expo warehouse booksale! and i was not going to pay four times more for this one) i'm sorry chef, i promise to look out for more of your books the next time i go down to one of those warehouse sales.

anyway, the marinade was really simple, but i made it with a few modifications.
modified memorised kebab recipe from chefw.an*
beef or lamb cubes (we used about 700g of beef cubes cut into small pieces)handful of chopped parsley1 tsp of tumeric1 1/2 tsp of chiili powder (his original recipe uses paprika and chilli flakes)1 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powdersalt and white pepper to taste2 tbsp of yogurt (his orginal recipe uses 1 lightly beaten egg)
i also added a few dashes of ground thyme, rosemary and some sprinkling of olive oil.
* since it was a memorised recipe, the quantities of the marinade were the ones i thought i could remember, but i am pretty sure they were approximately about there ( 1-1 1/2 tsp).
marinade for about 2 hrs, and we grilled them in the oven for about 50 min (i actually forgot the grilling portion of the recipe, so for this part we refered to another cookbook) or until cooked.
i think the marinade turn out pretty nice especially since it was simple and easy to prepare. we had them meat stuffed into the pita bread* with salad greens, and served with buttery cheesy baked baby potatoes on the side.

* my family unanimously agreed though that our favourite flat bread for stuffing, comes from mustafa. i got these pita bread from another supermarket earlier but we prefer the Gyros greek/turkish bread. you can however only find these gyros bread in the frozen food section of mustafa supermarket and not at any other supermarkets (have been looking around).
